Valeriia Khliustova BA (Hons) Illustration with Animation 2020

I make stop motion animation but I see myself more as a modelmaker and I am mostly inspired by horror aesthetics.
In my works, the main thing for me is to create the right atmosphere and convey the beauty that I see.

'House of Russia'
This project is about people that can be found in every Russian town. These surrealistic, dull and even depressing flats unfold some social problems and how nothing ever really changes with the flow of time.

[ AYBOLIT ]
Paper mache+latex puppets.
animation.

Aybolit is a character from children books by Korney Chukovsky. He is a friendly veterinarian who treats animals in the forest. But is it really that simple?
I remember that in one of the stories a bunny has lost its legs after being hit by a tram and Aybolit sewed him a pair of new legs. But where did he get these new bunny legs? It does not mention anything about that in the story. I tried to find an answer to this question myself but it was nowhere to be found.
This is what led me to this idea. I decided to look at this fairy tale from a different angle and question whether this doctor is actually as nice as he appears to be.
