Ria Lucey BA (Hons) Textiles in Practice 2020

Ria Lucey is a woven designer, with a considered approach to colour and composition. An ongoing interest for fine yarn was explored in her final year, appreciating the meticulous and delicate process with a focus on weft- faced techniques. Inspiration is usually pulled from subtleties found in the familiar and created into a narrative for each sample to tell. Her project ‘Tinted. Illuminated.’ explored the imitation of light from other mediums, taking advantage of the organzine warp to dip in and out of tinged and concentrated surfaces. Working with fine yarns to gain control over colour quantities to produce channels of charged lines. Her portfolio consists of samples for both fashion, interiors and one off pieces and celebrates how woven design can be interpreted.
