George Mitchinson BA (Hons) Filmmaking 2020

After studying Filmmaking for 3 years, I am no stranger to the vast array of styles and possibilities the medium possesses. I explored a variety of roles, including editing, cinematography and sound design, screenwriting and directing. My documentary and narrative work tends to explore ideas of belonging, family and the hidden history of landscape. I am currently working on a folk horror film called 'From Soil and Saplings’. This film was a chance for me to fully emerse myself in a genre I had long wanted to explore and was my first attempt at directing. I had always had an affinity for nature and my Dad would tell me old folklore tales of the land surrounding where I grew up, so it felt like a deeply personal avenue to explore.

'The Figure' and myself trying to figure out how to keep the moss from blowing away.
Listening to an audio take in which a woodpecker ruined the dialogue but gave some properly spooky forest ambience.
Moss being secured on the mask before a take, it really was quite windy.
