Jody Woodhouse

Jody Woodhouse BA (Hons) Illustration with Animation 2020

Throughout my degree, much of my practice has focussed on exploring narratives and visual storytelling. I particularly enjoy creating work for younger audiences and engaging them with concepts and themes through light-hearted narratives which require deeper thought.

Anthropomorphising characters within stories has allowed me to delicately touch on themes such as inclusivity and family alongside those with a more educational focus, reflected in my most recent children’s book ‘The Entomologist’.

While working mostly digitally, I have also expanded my practice to explore alternative avenues which engage younger audiences such as animation, where I’m able to explore characterisation in more detail.

Most recently, I have been producing digital content for Manchester Museums current exhibition which aims to encourage children to fall in love with insects. I thoroughly enjoy creating educational material, solving new visual communication problems and believe one of my strengths is my adaptability when aiming to expand my role as an illustrator.

Children's picture book which follows the story of a red beetle who befriends various insects while on a journey to find his family. The story concludes with his realisation that family doesnt always appear as we expect, and the friends he meet along the way are those who he truly feels at home with.
