Phoebe Ingram BA (Hons) Illustration with Animation 2020

After growing up in Cheshire my main influences include British wildlife, literature and heritage. I enjoy creating projects about public parks and gardens, inspired by my childhood visits to National Trust properties, as well as folklore and domesticity. Whilst working with collage, pattern design and animation, my areas of interest are within design, publishing and children’s illustration. Throughout my degree I have created children's picture books exploring mystery and emotions, and surface pattern design for wrapping paper and endpapers.

Inspired by the classic children’s novel The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, for my final project I created a book jacket and animation which capture the book's themes of growth and the power of nature. I wanted to re-capture the essence of the story for a new audience in the style of a special edition of the book. Whilst retaining the traditional hand-drawn artwork, I wanted to make an animation to demonstrate the impact that illustration can have in marketing and on social media.
