Victoria Smith BA (Hons) Photography 2020
Victoria Smith is a photographic-artist, born in East Yorkshire and currently based in Manchester. Through ecclectic and experimental approaches, Victoria's work plays upon themes of place, materiality, memory and the self.
In a world so over-illuminated, distracted, and dazzled by bright light, Victoria retreats into spaces of darkness to search for moments of solitude and tranquility; a longing for a new perception of the world. From focusing on the Lascaux Caves in France, to the developing studio and darkroom situated within her University, the artist attempts to subvert negative perceptions of darkness through historical and personal narratives. Utilising a variety of analogue and digital technologies, Victoria comments on her relationship with darkness, whilst realising its all encompassing significance within the medium of Photography.
