Eleanor Johnson BA (Hons) Textiles in Practice 2020
I am a printed textiles designer specialising in print for an interiors purpose. I am constantly drawn to the natural world, and this is where my inspiration derives from; whether this be in botanical gardens or along the wild hedgerows. For my final collection I have created a body of work that portrays my love for nature and colour. Drawing is extremely important to me as a print designer; it is a skill that I have continued to grow and develop throughout my years as a textile design student at Manchester Metropolitan University. My love for colour and illustration began to expand when specialising in print in my first year at university, and this has become an essential part of my practice. I work mostly digitally when creating my prints but often create hand painted designs within collections to experiment with scale, colour and materials. In these particular projects I have been inspired by Chester zoo and different botanical gardens in and around Manchester. Using photoshop I then work digitally to create designs from my original drawings. The hand painted qualities of the final designs give the collection a bespoke and unique style which is reflective of my individual approach as a print designer.
Post-graduation I plan to continue developing my skills as a print designer by gaining experience within the industry, and then hopefully working as part of a design team for an interior print company. Further in to the future I would love to develop my own brand and business in print design for interiors.
